March 2019. Grupo Acón, a Costa Rican company leader in the production and export of bananas and pineapples, promotes the education of more than 12,000 children from schools in the province of Limón since 2013, with the contribution of 48,796 books from the “Libros para Todos” project.
This program has benefited children of I and II cycle, since educational texts have been delivered to 100% of the students of each selected school. The schools are in the cantons of Pococí, Guácimo, Siquirres, Matina and Limón.
“For Grupo Acón, betting on education is fundamental for the integral development of the province, and we are proud to be the company that, since 2013, sponsors schools in the province of Limón with the “Libros para Todos“ program,” said Marilú Fernández, coordinator of Social Responsibility of Grupo Acón.
The program provides comprehensive support, because of it benefits are offered to students, teachers and parents.
Students receive textbooks of the basic subjects (Spanish, mathematics, social studies and sciences) according to the programs of the Ministry of Public Education; access to applications to learn multiplication tables, additional readings and other additional tools that allow them to perform better throughout the school year.
For their part, the teachers of these schools have a web platform to support textbooks, which allows them to make online consultations, programs for planning, murals and ephemerides.
In addition, ongoing training is provided to teachers in various areas: from the use of the digital platform, to additional support in the development of specific topics in the classroom. As part of this training, they also have the Soy Docente magazine, which allows them to keep up-to-date on everything related to the education sector at the national level.
The “Libros para Todos” program has a website that can also be used by each family to support their children in the educational process.
Grupo Acón started the program in 2013 with six schools in the province of Limón. However, every year more schools have been added and, by 2019, it has benefited 26 educational centers and 3,939 students from the 1st and 2nd cycle with the donation of 13,064 books.
Through the “Libros para Todos” program and association, monitoring is carried out in schools sponsored by Grupo Acón, aimed at teachers and principals, with the objective of measuring the impact of donation on students, class, teachers and educational performance in general.
“Grupo Acón is committed to generate economic, social and environmental value in all of its operations. The company, is aware that education is fundamental for the integral development of communities, and it has become one more actor to achieve positive goals and objectives in education. Investing in education is part of the most important pillars of our social responsibility strategy; for this reason, we did not hesitate to support the “Libros para Todos” Program”, added Fernández.
